Easy Super Chunky Slouchy Beanie Pattern (Crochet)

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to be posting another FREE pattern! This one is for all you crocrastinators (did you see what I did there?).

I frequently find myself telling people that I'll make them a beanie, and then life gets in the way and I find myself telling them it will be ready by next winter FOR SURE. Sounds promising, right? Luckily, this pattern only takes about 30 minutes start to finish and is beginner friendly. Erbody gets a beanie this time around.

When I sat down to write this pattern, I knew I wanted to make something that would work up quickly, but still be something that I would be proud to wear. Not to toot my own horn, but I get complimented on this hat every time I wear it out. What I love the most about this pattern is that it's so easy to customize by making it all one color, making it striped, or really just arranging your yarn in any way your heart desires to fit anyone's style.

Feel free to sell any hats you make using this pattern, but please link back to this post whenever possible. You can also tag me on Instagram (@i_can_knot_even) because I'd love to see your creations!

On that note, I like to keep these intros short.  So, let's get started and happy hooking!

Super Chunky Slouchy Beanie
Skill Level: Beginner
Materials:
  • ·         Super Bulky Yarn ( I used Lion Brand Thick and Quick Wool Ease)
  • ·         11.5mm crochet hook
  • ·         Scissors
  • ·         Yarn needle

Abbreviations
  • ·         CH- Chain
  • ·         SL ST- Slip Stitch
  • ·         DC- Double Crochet
  •       SC- Single Crochet

Note:

  • CH 2 and CH 1 at the beginning of round never counts as a stitch
  • This pattern is intended to be adult-sized
  • If you are finding that the hat is too large, use a smaller hook to adjust the tightness of the hat.

Pattern :

Chain 3
Round 1: 10 DC into the third chain from the hook, SL ST to top of first DC.
Round 2: CH 2. 2 DC in same stitch, and every stitch around. SL ST to top of first DC (20).
Round 3: CH 2. *1 DC in same stitch, 2 DC in next stitch.* Repeat pattern all the way around. SL ST to top of first DC (30).
Round 4-8: CH 2. DC in same stitch and every stitch around. SL ST to top of first DC (30).
Round 9-12: CH 1, SC into the same stitch and every stitch around. SL ST into top of first SC (30).

Tie off and weave in ends.

To make a pom pom: Wrap the yarn around your palm until you’ve reached your desired thickness and slide the yarn off your hand. Take a long string and tie it tightly around the bundle you made. It should sort of look like a butterfly with loops on either side of the string you tied.  Leave the two long ends of the string you used to tie around the bundle because you will use them to attach the pom pom to the beanie. Cut all the loops to open up the pom pom and give it a “hair cut” until it is even all the way around.

Attach the pom pom to the beanie by sticking the two long stands into the top of your hat and knotting them on the inside.
